Kate Beckinsale had a rather strange anecdote about her daughter’s boyfriend that even raised the eyebrows of Jimmy Kimmel.
On November 25, Beckinsale went on the late-night talk show to promote her upcoming film, Wildcat, but things took a turn when she started talking about her family.
The 52-year-old actor admitted that the last few years had been difficult as she had lost both of her parents. Her mother, Judy Loe, died of cancer at age 78 in July, and her stepfather, Roy Battersby, died at 87 in January 2024.
Following on from that topic, she noted that one of the few ‘bright spots’ following these tragic events was something that her 26-year-old daughter Lily Sheen’s boyfriend did.

According to Beckinsale, the unnamed boyfriend laid an egg....
Kimmel was understandably confused, even asking if this was a British euphemism, something that Beckinsale denied as she doubled down and insisted that the boyfriend laid two eggs in a week.
She said: “Well, he said, ‘I’ve laid an egg’, and of course I was like ‘Okay', trying to pull focus away from the cancer operation, you know, but it had a shell and a yolk.”
She clarified that the egg came out... well out of his body and not out of his mouth...
She continued: "He went to the bathroom and then was very surprised to find that he had laid an egg.
“I got very involved in this, because I really did need a distraction because everything was so horrible."
Kimmel even joked, still perplexed, that possibly the actor had mistaken what she had seen for one of the boyfriend’s testicles.
The late-night host questioned whether she believed the boyfriend’s story, to which Beckinsale confirmed, saying that he appeared ‘genuinely scared’ when the incident happened the first time.
She even went on to describe what kind of egg it was, a ‘hardboiled one, too, it kind of cooked inside him’.
She added: "I thought at first, 'Okay, this is a little bit embellished, obviously he can't — this doesn't happen.' Also, there was a lot going on in my family, so I kind of went, okay, boyfriend's laid an egg, whatever.
“And then a week later my daughter was flying back to New York, which is where she — I got a text that says, 'Oh my God, he's done it again, and now he's really freaking out,' and he's allergic to tree nuts, so we've had some emergencies, but this was more intense than a tree nut emergency."
Now, as far as we know, human men don’t tend to lay eggs when trying to go to the bathroom, so there really are only a few explanations.
This is quite the elaborate joke by Beckinsale, or a practical joke that the couple have pulled on Beckinsale during a difficult time.
Either way, it makes for one hell of a story.
