It is hard to say how any of us would react if our dad started dating a world-famous pop superstar like Katy Perry.
So, we could all only hope to respond like former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's son, after the pair went public with their relationship in December, with 18-year-old Gen Z Xavier speaking out for the first time this week.
The adult teenager, who was born the same year that 41-year-old Perry became a global phenomenon with her breakthrough hit I Kissed a Girl, shared how the pop singer had worked hard to bond with him as her relationship with his dad continues to deepen.
The burgeoning musician shared the rare insight into his father's relationship in an Instagram collaboration with influencer Hob G, where the pair spoke candidly while promoting McDonalds' and Drake's new 'Afters Meal' partnership.

Xavier shared with Hob how much he liked Perry, in between slurping down blue-raspberry flavored Nite Sprite and munching on Mickey D's version of that quintessential Canadian classic, poutine.

In between mouthfuls, Hob asked him about the 'elephant in the room', in other words, his dad's relationship with one of the biggest stars on the planet.
Xavier told the content creator that he has in fact met Perry, and has even had a lengthy chat with her.
"She's cool, she's nice," he said in the promo video. The aspiring musician even got some tips from the artists who had shifted 151 million records worldwide since her meteoric rise to fame in 2007.
"We talked for hours, talking about my music. She gave me advice and next steps for me and stuff," he added.
So, rather than seeing Perry as some evil step mother, Xavier might have just found himself a mentor.

There's little doubt that the past few years have been a whirlwind for the teen since his father left office in March 2025, only to start seeing one of the biggest pop stars a few months later.
On July 28, Trudeau and Perry were spotted on a dinner date at a 'swanky restaurant in Montreal', per TMZ. This was just weeks after the Roar singer finalized her split with actor Orlando Bloom after nine years together.
Perry would confirm that she was going steady with the former prime minister five months later in December, revealing that Trudeau had accompanied her on at least the Tokyo leg of her 'Lifetimes' world tour.
Amid pictures of sumo wrestlers and fluffy Japanese pancakes, Perry shared pictures of her and Trudeau going on a number of cute dates with the caption 'Tokyo times on tour and more ( ◠‿◠ )'.
While there intense relationship might seem sudden, an insider source told People that it's all down to Trudeau's commitment. They said: "The only reason this turned into something real is because Justin has been so persistent.
"She wasn't looking to date when they first hung out and she certainly wasn't looking for a boyfriend."
