Many fans of the family have speculated why the power couple decided on the name, but Jay-Z has since revealed the truth.

Multiple theories have spread round online why the Carters decided on the name Blue-Ivy.

Some have suggested it could simply be blue it's Jay-Z's favorite color.

Others have hoped the name was inspired by Jay-Z's track 'Glory' released in January, 2012, one of the lines: "Baby I paint the sky blue/ My greatest creation was you."

Jay-Z has since revealed what other options he and Beyoncé had in mind, as well as why they eventually went with Blue Ivy.

In an interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, Jay-Z explained Blue-Ivy's name was originally 'meant to be Brooklyn'.

He joked he 'wished it was that simple' they'd named her after their favorite color, but it actually came out of 'a nickname' the pair had for their daughter's sonogram picture.

Jay-Z explains: "We used to call it a blueberry. Like, 'Look at the little blueberry,' you know?

"[...] And for nine months we like, 'Oo look at the little blueberry'. So it was just natural [...] we called her Blue."

Elsewhere in the interview, Jay-Z reflected on what it was like to see his eldest child take to the stage for her mom's Renaissance tour.

The dad said: "First part, my wife, I know how hard she works. For me that was her best tour. And it's hard to really compare them because they all have their different things of genius, but this one to me felt the most complete. And on top of it how inclusive it was and the story of Uncle Johnny and how everything just came about. Which goes to from Johnny, the ancestors, to Blue.

"And Blue, what makes me super proud and I still get goosebumps seeing her walk on stage, because Blue has been born into this world, she's been born into a life she didn't ask, so she was born, she's been in scrutiny and the public eye and everyone having an opinion, even of a little girl how she keeps her air.

"So for her to be on that stage and reclaim her power and the song is called 'My Power'. You can't write a better script."
