
Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan’s family have released a statement following news that the star has died at the age of 71.
Early reports indicated that the wrestling icon suffered a cardiac arrest while at his home at Florida, however, this has not yet been confirmed.
Last month, it was reported that Hogan was recovering from a major operation on his heart, and a source close to the wrestler spoke about it to US Weekly.
They said: “Hulk had pretty serious heart surgery a few weeks ago and was doing well afterward.”

As news of his passing reached social media today, fans from across the world praised the icon for his contribution to the sport of wrestling as well as his character and personality.
In an official statement, his family said: "It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we confirm we have lost a legend. Our beloved Terry Bollea, known worldwide as Hulk Hogan, passed away today surrounded by his loved ones.

"At this time of grief, we ask that everyone please respect the privacy of his family and friends. May we all take solace in the wonderful memories he left behind for the millions of fans worldwide whose lives he touched for more than four decades.

Hogan’s influence on wrestling can’t be understated, and to this day remains one of the most recognizable individuals in the sport.
Tributes have been flooding in for Hogan in recent hours after his family confirmed to US Weekly that he had passed away.
WWE said in a statement: "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.

Fans also posted to social media, with one writing: "Hard to describe this man's dominance in our society during my childhood years. RIP to the Hulkster."
A second added: "I grew up watching Hulk Hogan, first in the wrestling ring, then in movies like 3 Ninjas, Mr. Nanny, and Suburban Commando. He was a true character and one of the first wrestlers I saw make the leap into Hollywood. A larger-than-life icon. RIP, Champ."
