Dylan O'Brien's transgender sibling slams actor for lack of support in scathing Instagram statement

Dylan O'Brien's transgender sibling has hit out at their brother's remarks about people he knows in the LGBTQ+ community.

Last year, O'Brien starred in Ponyboi, a thriller about a young intersex sex worker who is fleeing a mob after a drug deal goes wrong.

River Gallo plays the lead of Ponyboi, while O'Brien plays Vinny in the film. It also stars You and The Haunting of Bly Manor actor Victoria Pedretti, The White Lotus favorite Murray Bartlett, and Indya Moore, who is best known for starring in Pose.

Around the time of its release last year, the cast were interviewed by Vulture and it's here that O'Brien opened up about having a trans sibling.

"I have a trans, non-binary sibling," he shared. "And I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I'm so grateful for how much it deepens my experience int this world."

O'Brien's co-star Gallo went on to hail him as 'an example of what so many men should be'.

The January 2024 interview has recently resurfaced in the wake of the Gay Times sharing an article about what O'Brien said at the time about being grateful for his trans sibling, named Julz.

But now, Julz has somewhat questioned the praise their brother has been getting.

Replying to a now-deleted Instagram post shared by Gay Times, Julz wrote: "[Dylan] also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. He didn’t check in when I had top surgery.

"He didn’t even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in the world and make the world love him that much more."

From the looks of Julz's Instagram page, they underwent top surgery in December 2024.

Elsewhere, Julz corrected their brother and said that they identify as as trans/masc and therefore go by he/they pronouns, Pink News reports.

Backing up Julz's claims about having long not been in touch with their Hollywood actor sibling, O'Brien hasn't featured on Julz's Instagram page since July 2023.

In the photo in question, O'Brien was seen holding up a pint of Guinness while Julz had their arms around a couple of friends.

LADbible group have approached reps for O'Brien for comment.

Another actor who has spoken out about having loved ones in the LGBTQ+ community is The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, whose sister is trans.

He's previously said that he is 'lethally' protective over his sister Lux. Pascal described his sibling as 'the most powerful people and personalities I've ever known'.
