Britney Spears' representative has issued a statement after the singer was arrest in California on a DUI charge.

Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California on Wednesday (March 4) and booked at around 3am on Thursday morning.

According to police records, which list her occupation as 'celebrity', Spears was arrested for a DUI (driving under the influence) before being released shortly after her arrest. She is now due to appear in court on May 4.

In a statement responding to the incident, a representative for the 44-year-old 'Oops I Did It Again' singer described it as an 'unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable'.

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life," they continued. "Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

The representative then went on to make reference to Spears' two adult children, Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, who she shares with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

They said: "Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."

In California, a DUI can refer to either alcohol or drugs while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Drugs can include certain prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, while being over the legal alcohol limit would mean someone has a blood alcohol of 0.08% or higher, if you are over 21 years old.

If found guilty of DUI in California, you can be sentenced to up to six months in jail and fined.

Spears has recently been on the other side of the law, after she filed for a restraining order against a Louisiana man who allegedly showed up uninvited to her home in Los Angeles in 2025.

The man was spotted by Spears' security guard and reported to police.

As well as trespassing, the man is alleged to have shared social media posts which 'could be interpreted as threatening to harm' Spears.

It was announced this week that Spears was successful in being granted the order, with the man ordered to stay 100 yards away from the singer at all times.
