Music superstar Madonna has revealed she will embark on a world tour to celebrate four decades of hits, fashion, art, and drama.

Organisers said in a statement that 'Madonna: The Celebration Tour' will take fans on her artistic journey through four decades and pays respect to the city of New York where her career in music began'.

"I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for," the pop icon said in a statement, as per Reuters.

Madonna, who is the best-selling female music artist of all time, shared a video to Instagram to break the big news.

In the clip she is seated around a table playing truth or dare with a raft of celebrities including Diplo, Judd Apatow, Jack Black, and Amy Schumer.

In the video, Madonna plants a big pash on Jack Black, before Amy Schemer comes up with her dare.

The comedian dared Madonna to go on tour to perform her famous tracks like 'Material Girl' and 'Like a Prayer'.

Madonna, a gal who never shies away from a challenge, accepts.

So it looks like we have Amy Schumer to thank for this one.

The tour will mark the anniversary of her debut single and to celebrate her career as a pop, music, and fashion icon, spanning from her 1983 self-titled debut album to 2019's Madame X.

The tour will hit up 35 cities around the globe, kicking off the mammoth tour with Vancouver on July 15.

From there, she will travel to a spate of North American cities before heading to Europe.

She'll wrap up her tour in Amsterdam on December 1.

Supporting Madonna on all dates is drag performer and winner of Ru Paul's Drag Race Bob the Drag Queen, real name Caldwell Tidicue.

No dates for Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America, or the Pacific have been announced.

The new tour will be Madonna's return to stadium and arena touring after her experimental, theatrical Madame X shows in 2019 and 2020.

Some of those shows were cancelled as the Queen of Pop struggled with knee and hip injuries, with the final 10 nixed as the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
