Following the death of Liam Payne, fans were left stunned when they realized the star’s final Instagram post was dedicated to his former One Direction bandmates.

The music world came to a standstill on October 16 when it was confirmed that Liam Payne had died while in Argentina.

Police were called to the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires yesterday at around 5:00pm local time, and were informed that the star had fallen from the third floor of his hotel balcony.

This untimely death of the star, who was once part of the one of the biggest boybands in the world, One Direction, has left a lot of fans reflecting on his final social media posts.

Looking at his Instagram page, fans noticed that Payne’s latest post was a throwback to the boyband's earlier days.

The photo showed the band alongside Morgan Spurlock, who directed and produced the group’s 2013 documentary, One Direction: This Is Us, chronicling their rise to superstardom.

Spurlock died earlier this year and alongside the post, Payne wrote: “Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock it was a pleasure working with you.”

Realizing this was Payne’s final post, many fans took to posting their tribute messages here.

One Instagram user wrote: "Rest in peace Liam. Thanks for being a big special part of my childhood. I wish this was a joke or something. One direction will never be the same for me. You deserved much more than this ending."

Another commented: “Rest in peace Liam, thank you for being a part of all of our childhood’s, bringing smiles and music to all of us, and growing up with us. You will be severely missed."

A third wrote: "You’re missed by millions Liam thanks for playing a huge part of my childhood I can never repay you for the memories I made from one direction I hope your singing in the sky rest in peace man."

And another commented: "It feels unreal… One Direction was such a huge part of our lives, and now this news about Liam just hits so hard. Rest in peace, Liam."

What exactly happened that led to the star’s death is not yet clear.

Police said in a statement they were called over reports of an 'aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol'.

In audio from the Buenos Aires security ministry obtained by Reuters, a hotel worker can be heard telling police when the man 'is conscious he is destroying the room' and that staff feared for the guest's own life, needing authorities to 'send someone' to help.

UNILAD previously contacted representatives for Payne for comment.
