Kevin Bacon slams anti-drag queen bans saying it's 'an art' and 'a right'

Kevin Bacon has slammed US anti-drag legislation, defending drag as an 'art' and a 'right'.
This comes as conservative lawmakers continue to push for anti-drag laws that would ban drag from occurring in public places or around children.
The actor, 64, took to Instagram to defend the rights of drag performers after the latest episode of RuPaul's Drag Race featured a tribute to his 1984 movie Footloose.

In the episode, queens like Loosey LaDuca, Luxx Noir London, and Sasha Colby took on a musical theater challenge, which saw them star in a production of 'Wigloose: The Rusical'.
Naturally, the production starred Loosey LaDuca as 'Heaven Bacon', dressed up in pink overalls and a matching bedazzled cap.
Inspired by current events, the twist on the 80's classic saw Heaven Bacon move to a new town and asks his peers when they hold their drag ball. But in this new town, drag is banned.
You'll be pleased to know that, just like in Footloose, it works out for Kevin - ahem, Heaven - and his friends, and with a little convincing and a whole lot of dancing, joy and drag are brought back to the dull little town.
RuPaul and the other judges absolutely adored the performance - and so, it seems, did Kevin Bacon.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Big shoutout to @rupaulsdragrace's 'Wigloose: The RuSical' (and props to Heaven Bacon @looseyladuca.
"With all the recent anti-drag bills, this came at just the right time. Drag is an art and drag is a right."
Kevin then shared a video that RuPaul had posted earlier this month to call out the recent political targeting of drag performers and transgender people.
In the video, Ru says: "'Hey, look over there!' - a classic distraction technique, distracting us away from the real issues that they were voted into office to focus on: jobs, healthcare, keeping our children safe from harm at their own school.
"We know that bullies are incompetent at solving real issues. They look for easy targets so they can give the impression of being effective.
"They think our love, our light, our laughter, and our joy are signs of weakness, but they're wrong, because that is our strength. Drag queens are the marines of the queer movement.
"Don't get it twisted and don't be distracted. Register to vote so we can get these stunt queens out of office and put some smart people with real solutions into government."
Kevin also shared a link to the Drag Defense Fund, which is raising money to support those who are facing serious threats and censorship as a result of anti-drag and anti-trans legislation.
