Jennifer Lawrence recalls ‘horrible’ medication mix-up that led to her hallucinating on Hunger Games set

It wasn't the only time she made a medication error on set either

We know her best as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, but even A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence can sometimes make crucial mistakes that continue to haunt them.

While most people know about her iconic trip-up while collecting an Oscar back in 2013, not many people may be aware of the time she accidentally made a grave medication error that led to her hallucinating in the middle of the Hunger Games set.

Recalling the experience on the latest episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Lawrence shared the memory with fellow actor and Don't Look Up co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, as she recalled that the mistake had happened more than once during her impressive career.

“When I did Red Sparrow, I took an Adderall instead of a sleeping pill, and then I didn’t sleep all night,” she began.

“ I was taking hot showers in a panic. I am not somebody who can function without sleep. And then I had to say the phrase “Senate Armed Services Committee” in a Russian accent. That sucked.”

Lawrence then admitted she’d also made a second blunder as she continued: “I also once took an Ambien in the morning, thinking it was something else.”

The One Battle After Another star then quipped: “Those are key screwups.”

Expanding more on that scenario, Lawrence went on to recall how it had been a scene in Hunger Games: Catching Fire that proved problematic for her due to the mix-up.

“It was a dance scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman on the second Hunger Games movie. I was hallucinating. Elizabeth Banks got really annoyed with me. Maybe she didn’t know that I was on an Ambien. "

“It almost shuts off a certain part of your brain,” observed DiCaprio.

Prompting Lawrence to agree as she continued: “Certainly, the memorizational part of it. I kept asking the director ‘And what does this mean? And what does this mean? And what does this mean?”

“And she just threw her sides and was like ‘Fine. Let’s just keep talking about it.’”

Despite the awkward moment on set, the final scene went without a hitch – but Lawrence may not have seen it, as she, much like DiCaprio, rarely watches her own films.

The pair discussed this quirk during the interview, when the Die My Love actress asked DiCaprio: “Have you rewatched Titanic?

“No. I haven’t seen it before,” he confessed.

Lawrence then replied: “Oh, you should. I bet you could watch it now as a movie, it’s so good.”

Despite being one of the films he is best known for, DiCaprio then went on to confess that he isn’t a fan of watching his own work.

“I don’t really watch my films, maybe I do, some movies I've watched," he confessed, before asking: “Do you?”

Lawrence then responded that she too often avoids watching her own work, but has admitted to being bitten by the curiosity bug for a few of her feature films.

“No. I’ve never made something like Titanic, if I did I would watch it,” she replied.

“Once I was really drunk, I put on American Hustle. I was like, 'I wonder if I’m good at acting?' I put it on, and I don’t remember what the answer is!”
