James Corden tears up during emotional final episode of Late Late Show

There wasn't a dry eye in the house when the programme finished for the final time.

James Corden has pulled the curtain down on The Late Late Show in a tearful farewell.

After eight years and almost 1,200 episodes, he's finally bid farewell to the programme that people from across the globe have fallen in love with.

Whether your favorite segment was Carpool Karaoke, Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts, or even the celebrity interviews on the couch, there was really something for everyone.

The British actor's relaxed charm and infectious personality was built for a late night talkshow in the US.

In the near decade that he's hosted The Late Late Show, he's had some of the biggest names on to talk about their projects, their dreams and some really, really weird stories.

For the final farewell, he had Will Ferrell, Harry Styles and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin on as guests.

Styles and Ferrell were given a sledgehammer to destroy Corden's desk and it made for some absolutely fantastic television.

The host was cowering in fear as he watched his beloved set piece, one that he has sat at for eight years, be reduced to wood chips in seconds.

He also got his dear friend Adele on for his final Carpool Karaoke and it will filled with musical numbers and touching moments between the two.

Before the show aired, he revealed the reason why he finally decided to say goodbye.

Speaking to fellow chat show host Drew Barrymore, Corden said he came to the realisation that his work was taking more time than it should.

He recalled a difficult moment with his son that sparked his decision.

"When I was shooting the show Mammals two summers ago, one day I was filming on a Sunday and I came downstairs, it was about 6am and my son, who was 10 at the time, was sitting on the stairs," Corden said.

Corden was visibly emotional as he said goodbye to the show.

"And he said, 'Are you working today?' And I said, 'I am'. And he said, 'But it's Sunday'.

"And I said, 'I know, buddy, but the schedule is just so all over the place, [I've] just got to get it done because I only have a tiny amount of time before we have to go back and do the [Late Late] show'.

"And his face just kind of dropped.

"And I got in the car and I called my wife Jules and I said, 'I've realised, best case scenario, we have six more summers where Max even remotely wants to be around us. And I cannot waste another one'."
