Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper announces engagement to Matt Kaplan

Cooper and Kaplan met on Zoom in 2020

After years spent getting into the juicy details of other people's relationships, Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper has announced her own engagement to boyfriend Matt Kaplan.

The 28-year-old, who began the hit podcast in 2018, shared the exciting news this week in an interview with W Magazine.

A coronavirus love story come to life, Cooper met Kaplan on a Zoom call in 2020 - an encounter which earned Kaplan the nickname 'Mr. Sexy Zoom Man' whenever he was discussed on Call Her Daddy as Cooper sought to keep his identity a secret.

Cooper long hid Kaplan's identity from her listeners.

Kaplan, a 39-year-old Hollywood producer, popped the question on 3 March after tricking Cooper into leaving the house under the pretence of a fake photoshoot.

The podcast host returned home that evening to find their Los Angeles home covered in candles, with music playing and a scavenger hunt for her to complete.

"There was a computer and the screen said 'play me'. I played the video, and it was Matt wearing the same exact outfit that he wore on our first Zoom meeting together," Cooper told W. "He talked about our relationship and his love for me, and then he asked me to open the card sitting there and to follow the scavenger hunt around the house."

After following the clues and finding photos and mementos of their time together, Cooper discovered Kaplan outside with their two dogs, who were both dressed for the occasion in bow ties.

"He got down on one knee and said, 'You’re my soulmate, the love of my life. You make me a better man. Please do me the honor of marrying me'," Cooper recalled.

"I like, blacked out. I think I said yes at first. It was very surreal."

Cooper admitted she had previously been 'unsure if marriage was something [she] wanted', having witnessed so many marriages that were 'unhealthy and unstable'.

Over time, however, she became convinced that she wanted to marry Kaplan, and in November she told him he could 'propose whenever he wanted'.

Cooper credited their 'great dynamic', 'foundation of honesty' and 'insane chemistry' with helping change her mind about marriage, adding: "He's also so supportive of my career. A lot of men in my past were really intimidated by my success. They tried to suppress what I was doing or make me feel bad about it. Matt has always been my biggest supporter."

The couple don't have a date in mind just yet, but Cooper is hopeful they'll tie the knot next year. Needless to say, her fans are desperate to get all the details as soon as they come.
