Carrie Fisher's daughter fires back at family who 'capitalized' on her mother's death

Billie Lourd has confirmed Fisher's relatives haven't been invited to her late mother's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

Billie Lourd has confirmed she didn’t invite her mom's siblings to the late Star War legend's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

The Princess Leia star is set to be honored posthumously by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce today (May 4), joining 2,753 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures.

While the day is supposed to be a ceremonious occasion, it’s turned into a vicious family feud as Fisher's half-siblings are barred from the event.

However, Fisher's daughter confirmed why Todd and Tricia Leigh Fisher were excluded from the upcoming ceremony.

Lourd released a statement to the Daily Mail, explaining her aunt and uncle had ‘capitalized’ on her mother’s death.

“I apologize to anyone reading this for feeling the need to defend myself publicly from these family members," she said.

"But unfortunately, because they publicly attacked me, I have to publicly respond. The truth is I did not invite them to this ceremony.

"They know why."

She continued: “Days after my mom died, her brother and her sister chose to process their grief publicly and capitalize on my mother’s death, by doing multiple interviews and selling individual books for a lot of money, with my mom and my grandmother’s deaths as the subject.”

Lourd added she was never consulted about her relatives doing press during the tumultuous time, nor did they consider how it would ‘affect their relationship’.

The Scream Queens actor also disclosed that her mother had a ‘complicated’ relationship with her siblings and that she currently has no relationship with them.

“This was a conscious decision on my part to break a cycle with a way of life I want no part of for myself or my children,” she wrote.

She concluded: “This moment is about Carrie Fisher and all that she accomplished and what she meant to the world. I’m going to focus on that. May the 4th be with you.”

Tricia and Todd responded in a joint-statement, writing: "This is something Carrie would have definitely wanted her siblings to be present for.

"The fact that her only brother and two sisters were intentionally and deliberately excluded is deeply shocking."

Fisher passed away on 27 December 2016, shortly after completing a promotional tour for her autobiography The Princess Diarist.

Last year, during the sixth anniversary of Fisher’s death, Lourd shared a heartwarming tribute while opening up about becoming a mother herself.

“Giving birth to my daughter and watching my son meet her have been two of the most magical moments I have ever experienced," she said.

"But with the magic of life tends to come the reality of grief.

She added: “I wish my Momby were here, but she isn't.

"So all I can do is hold onto the magic harder, hug my kids a little tighter."
