Bebe Rexha has spoken out for the first time after getting hit in the face by a phone whilst performing in New York.

The singer posted a picture of herself with a blackened eye and what appears to be stitches on her face, captioning the pic: "I'm good."

A 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

The 33-year-old musician was performing at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Saturday night when the incident took place.

She was struck in the face by the device, and required treatment at the hospital, with some reports suggesting that she needed ‘three stitches’.

Rexha shared two pictures of her injuries.

The singer was just heading towards the front of the stage at the time, falling onto her knees with pain after getting struck clean in the face.

She kept her head down afterwards, and had to be taken to hospital afterwards for treatment.

Now, a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department has confirmed that Nicolas Malvagna has been arrested.

He has been charged with assault.

The statement from the NYPD spokesperson said: "On Sunday, June 18, 2023 at approximately 2200 hours, police were notified of an assault that occurred at the concert space of Pier 17 located at 89 South Street, within the confines of the 1st Precinct.

"A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a 27-year-old male intentionally threw a cell phone at a 33-year-old female performer on stage, striking her about the face.

"The individual was taken into custody on scene and removed to the 1st Precinct for arrest processing.

“The aided female was removed by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition.”

The statement continues: "Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual has been arrested and charged on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 2254 hours within the confines of the 1 Precinct.”

The incident was captured on camera by another attendee at the show, who shared that footage on Twitter afterwards.

In the clip, it is clear that other fans at Rexha’s concert alerted the security to the man who allegedly threw the phone.

The suspect was then pulled out of the crowd and over the venue barrier, while the crew helped Rexha on the stage.

Fans have since condemned the incident online, with one person writing: “Bebe Rexha is quite literally the sweetest and most supportive soul on the planet, what is wrong with you demons…?”

Another said: “This is Bebe Rexha being rushed out of the concert venue here in NYC after someone threw a f**king phone and hit her face as she was leaving the stage.

“We were all having a hell of a good time and so was Bebe, we were all having a blast, I mean who would even do that???

    “We hope you’re OK.”
