Star Wars fans might be able to get the iconic Star Wars Battlefront II game on PS5 and PS4 in the future.
There’s already lots on the horizon when it comes to Star Wars video games. Award winning director and writer Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media are working on a game and a first-person shooter (FPS) from Respawn is also being developed. Meanwhile, Ubisoft is working on an open world game plus fans are also looking forward to Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse, Zynga’s Star Wars: Hunters, Respawn’s strategy game, plus Saber Interactive’s Knights Of The Old Republic Remake.
But one title fans may be surprised to see possibly joining this already huge list is one that is probably familiar - the old favourite, Star Wars Battlefront II may become available on PS5.
In November 2022, the Pandemic Studios game celebrated its 17th anniversary which led to an outpouring of nostalgic dedications to the title by fans. It was released on PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox and PC in 2005s.
This gem of a game - which is a single-player campaign that sees players join Darth Vader’s 501st legion of Stormtroopers - still delights Star Wars fans nearly two decades later .
Gaming website Push Square reported in December that the PSP version of Star Wars Battlefront will be adapted for both PS4 and PS5 and given out to PS Plus Premium members in the future.
The game had appeared on the PS Store as a classic title - meaning it definitely fits the bill for what we’ve come to expect from the premium tier - however the listing has since been hidden.
The publication said that the game’s description stated that it had been updated with ‘up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters’.
It is currently unknown why the PSP version of the game was chosen to be updated, however the description adds: “This title has been converted from the PSP version to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles and provides newly added features.
"Consequently, there may be times where the title plays differently from the PSP version, or where some features may cause the title to not function properly."
UNILAD has contacted Sony for comment.
In the meantime, fans only a have a few more weeks to wait until the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Set five years after the events of Fallen Order, the game will see Cal Kestis go against Rayvis, who is a member of the Gen’dai race and is pretty much indestructible.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on 28 April.
