Expert explains why Apple's new iPhone 15 is suffering from overheating issues

An Apple analysis has explained why some iPhone 15s are overheating, and they think it's down to the phone's lighter weight

An Apple analyst may have worked out why many of the iPhone 15 models are overheating.

The brand new device hit shelves across the globe in recent days, but there have already been reports of people having issues with it.

Priced at an eye-watering $799 for the standard version, people aren't best pleased that their expensive phones are overheating.

But what exactly is the cause?

Well, it turns out it could be down to the newly adapted charging ports, as after years of splashing out on lightning cables, Apple finally ditched their one-of-a-kind charging device to swap it for the more universally used USB-C port.

Making it even better, the port is even said to be able to charge your AirPods and Apple Watch from your phone's battery. Genius.

But some stores have urged people not to use Android USB-C chargers that they already own to charge their new iPhone 15s as it can cause the device to overheat.

This is because USB-C cables that come bundled with Android devices or are specifically designed for that type of mobile device.

Elsewhere, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo think the phones lightweight structure could be to blame for the overheating issues people are having.

He penned to Medium: "My survey indicates that the iPhone 15 Pro series overheating issues are unrelated to TSMC’s advanced 3nm node."

Kuo surveyed his production line sources to get his findings.

He went on: "The primary cause is more likely the compromises made in the thermal system design to achieve a lighter weight, such as the reduced heat dissipation area and the use of a titanium frame, which negatively impacts thermal efficiency."

Kuo thinks Apple will address the tech issue 'through software updates', but improvements might not be made until the firm 'lowers processor performance'.

Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, has previously praised the phone's compactness.

The phone's lighter weight might be causing the issue.

"It is like everything you love and depend on, your device, your phototaking, your memory capturing, and now it’s a powerhouse game console, but one that is in your pocket that you can take anywhere," she told Pocket Tactics.

"I mean, it’s remarkable how it all comes together."

Another criticism the new iPhone 15 has faced is its durability.

In a video testing the device, it was found that once pressure is applied to it, a large crack formed across its panel. The phone still functions okay, but the extent of the physical damage is quite a lot.

While most people aren't planning on throwing their phone out of the window of a 12-storey building, the device should still be able to handle a bit of bumps and tumbles day-to-day life can bring.
