Apple's new iOS update could make your iPhone unrecognizable with 'most dramatic' redesign in years

The report claims our tech devices are set for a major rebrand in the near future

Our iPhones could be getting a ‘dramatic software overhaul’ soon as experts reveal what could be in store for anticipated iOS 19 updates.

It’s been just over six months since iOS 18 was released, bringing with it a new-look Photos app, technical enhancements to Camera Control, and game-changing generative AI features.

As well as improvements to Siri, the introduction of Apple Intelligence, and a ChatGPT partnership, the 18th version of the Apple operating system introduced Math Notes to the Calculator App, optimised for users to plot functions on graphs, and began supporting Rich Communication Services (RCS).

According to Apple's adoption statistics, around 68 percent of all qualifying iPhones are currently running iOS 18, rising to 76 percent for smartphone models released in the last four years.

And in the wake of iOS 18’s success, the tech company is allegedly now working on a ‘dramatic’ redesign of its operating system that is set to render your mobile device unrecognizable.

A bombshell report from Bloomberg UK claims iPhone, iPad and Mac software is set to be ‘overhauled’ with iOS 19.

It’s understood this planned revamp will be the ‘most significant upgrade’ to the Apple Mac since 2020, and the iPhone since iOS 7 was introduced way back in 2013.

While the tech titan has yet to announce any actual concrete plans for what we can expect from iOS 19, it’s claimed the update is likely to focus on altering how the operating system looks and functions.

That reportedly includes altering how icons and menus look and function, as well as simplifying the styling of apps, windows and system buttons.

This alleged re-design is thought to have been loosely based on the Apple Vision Pro’s spatial operating system.

Released on February 2, 2024, in the United States, the augmented reality headset retails for $3,499 and favors spherical app icons, ergonomics, translucent navigation panels and more.

Updating the Apple iPhone, iPad and Mac software - which will reportedly become ‘more consistent’ with one another - is a ‘major focus’ for the company’s engineering organization, the publication claims.

It’s also understood the Apple interface team, set within the company’s larger design group, has also been working on the iOS 19 iPhone, iPadOS 19 and macOS 16 software updates.

While the timeframe for iOS 19’s release is yet to be confirmed, it’s expected that the California company will touch on the update at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Often held in early June, WWDC sees developers and tech wizards flocking to Apple Park to get their hands on new software and test out technologies before being rolled out to the public.

Last year, details regarding iOS 18 were premiered at the convention, alongside a smorgasbord of Apple Watch, Apple TV+ and iPad updates.

UNILAD has contacted representatives at Apple for further comment.
