Tensions remain high between the Russia and the rest of Europe after drones invaded the airspace of Poland.
As the war between Ukraine and Russia continues to rage on, tensions also remain high between Russia and NATO nations.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that their airspace had been violated by Russian drones during an attack on Ukraine last week. He insisted this required further actions and that the country should prepare for ‘various scenarios’ in case things escalate, describing the situation as a 'large-scale provocation' which required further action from Poland.
Russia's Ministry of Defence insisted that drones were intended for Ukrainian targets only and that there were no targets in Poland planned for striking.

However, on Monday, Deputy Head of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev did little to quell the ongoing fears and tensions surrounding an escalation.

In a statement on Telegram, he said he was ‘amused’ by Eastern Sentry, a new NATO initiative launched to shield and protect allies in the eastern flank.
He added: “But seriously, the implementation of the provocative idea of… creating a ‘no-fly zone over Ukraine’ and the ability for NATO countries to shoot down our UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) will mean only one thing - a war between NATO and Russia.”

NATO issued a statement on the new initiative following the Poland air space violation, and the drones being shot down.
The statement read: “The multi-domain activity, which will commence in the coming days and continue for an undisclosed amount of time, is in response to ongoing airspace violations, including the numerous Russian drones that violated Poland’s airspace on September 10.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also implied that Russia and NATO are now at war due to NATO’s involvement on the ongoing conflict.

He told press on Monday (September 15): "Nato is de facto involved in this war. Nato is providing direct and indirect support to the Kyiv regime. It can be said with absolute certainty that Nato is fighting against Russia."
This could turn into a reality as Poland has called on NATO to take action.
Poland had requested to invoke NATO's Article 4, which means NATO members 'will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened'.
Any NATO member may request to activate Article 4 if 'territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the parties is threatened'.
