Trump administration unveils plans for 'New Gaza' with skyscrapers and coastal apartments

Trump's government has said the Board of Peace will be key going forward

With much of Gaza currently reduced to rubble, the Trump administration has revealed details of a new plan to redevelop the war torn city with seaside skyscrapers.

Donald Trump’s son-in-law and real estate developer Jared Kushner has revealed the White House’s upcoming plans for Gaza.

Speaking at the Board of Peace signing in Switzerland on Thursday (January 22), Kushner revealed, following much investment, the region will be completely transformed.

The board will reportedly focus on the rebuilding of Gaza following the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the region.

Their plan is set to cost $25 billion, with the ambitious aim of being completed over the next two to three years.

One of the parts of the plan included the deployment of an international security force and disarmament of Hamas.

Hamas has reportedly agreed in principle to hand over its rockets and artillery to a Palestinian-run Gaza administration.

It's a marked u-turn from Trump's previous plan to resettle the Palestinians in Gaza in neighboring Arab countries.

During his speech, Kushner showed slideshows showing concept art of the plan to develop the area in zones.

He said: “We've developed ways to redevelop Gaza. Gaza, as President Trump's been saying, has amazing potential, and this is for the people of Gaza.

“In the beginning, we were toying with the idea of saying, 'Let's build a free zone, and then we have a Hamas zone.' And then we said, 'You know what? Let's just plan for catastrophic success. Hama signed a deal, demilitarized. That is what we are going to enforce.'”

For New Rafah, Kushner claimed that there will be more than 100,000 permanent housing units, 200 education centres, 180 cultural, religious and vocational centers and 75 medical facilities.

Last year, it was estimated that nearly 90 percent of homes in Gaza have been destroyed, while healthcare and sanitation systems have collapsed.

Kushner also explained that the Board of Peace will be copying from any successes countries around the world have had to implement this plan.

He said: “We have a lot of data on what can be but we think this really gives the Gazan people an opportunity to live their aspirations.

“But it all starts with security and it all starts on governance.

“Final note that I will just say on the Board of Peace, all the lessons we are doing is we are studying the best practices from all over the world, we are watching who does education best, who does healthcare the best.

“This is not a secret IP, this is something the Board of Peace is going to make public and we want to encourage all of these countries to follow these best practices.”
