Donald Trump has hinted at the next country that he wants to target just days after launching a series of strikes against Iran.

US and Israeli forces have hit multiple sites in Iran since February 28, with the strikes beginning after negotiations on Iran's nuclear program failed to reach a deal with the US.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the attacks, and the country is now in the process of selecting a new Supreme Leader.

But while the smoke hasn't even started to clear on US and Israeli bombardment of Iran, Trump has already made a chilling threat against another country that he wants to target, this time significantly closer to home.

Speaking on CNN on Friday morning, Trump warned that the country 'is going to fall pretty soon'.

This is Cuba, located south of Florida and bordering the Gulf of Mexico.

“Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon, by the way, unrelated, but Cuba is gonna fall too,' Trump said. "They want to make a deal so badly.

“They want to make a deal, and so I’m going to put Marco [Rubio] over there and we’ll see how that works out. We’re really focused on this one right now. We’ve got plenty of time, but Cuba’s ready - after 50 years."

Trump added: “I’ve been watching it for 50 years, and it’s fallen right into my lap because of me, it’s fallen, but it’s nevertheless fallen right into the lap. And we’re doing very well.”

Cuba has been a difficult point for US foreign policy ever since the revolution led by Fidel Castro overthrew the US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959.

Relations only worsened when a US-backed invasion of Cuban opposed to Castro, known as the Bay of Pigs Invasion, completely failed to overthrow Castro's regime and gave the fledgling government a rallying point.

Cuba was at the centre of a Cold War crisis when Soviet president Nikita Khrushchev stationed nuclear missiles on the island, leading to a tense confrontation.

For decades, the island nation was subjected to a punishing US embargo, which was condemned by the United Nations.

By 2015 relations appeared to be thawing during the final days of Barack Obama's presidency, with relaxation of some travel restrictions and import and export licences.

After decades of tension, things appeared to be relaxing with Cuba beginning to see an increased influx of foreign influence.

But all that changed in 2016 when Trump was first elected to the White House, and he would go on to reinstate the embargo in 2017.

Now in his second term, and Trump has indicated a desire to take an even more direct approach with Cuba, with restrictions once again tightened further in 2025.

President Donald Trump's latest update on where he stands with Iran

In a post he wrote earlier today (March 6) on Truth Social, Trump said: “There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER! After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.

“IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).” Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
