Heavy snow can put a halt to many activities, but what do you do when extreme snowfall means you're stranded far from home with nowhere to go?

A group of 10 tourists from South Korea became trapped in a blizzard whilst journeying from DC to Niagara Falls.

The fierce, freezing cold storm had hit the East Coast last week, causing over 40 inches of snowfall in some areas of the country. Tragically, many Americans have died from the extremely cold temperatures.

Luckily for the South Korean group of 10 trapped in Buffalo, New York, a pair of Good Samaritans, Alex Campagna and his wife Andrea Campagna from New York, were on hand to help when they had received a knock for help following the unbearable conditions.

The travellers' van had gotten stuck in the snow from the blizzard and they had initially knocked on the door of the couple's home to ask to borrow some shovels to help dig their vehicle out of a ditch.

Campagna wrote a post on Facebook explaining he heard a 'frantic knock of the door' during 'the worst blizzard' he's ever experienced.

He went on to explain that the knock came 'from a Korean tour-group of ten en route from DC to Niagara Falls, whose bus got stuck and remains stuck in front of our house'.

Campagna went above and beyond and instead welcomed the group of 10 travellers inside to warm up and rest.

Alex told The New York Times that he and his wife had taken the weary travellers in, providing them with couches, sleeping bags and air mattresses, as well as a spare bedroom to sleep in as he didn't want them to venture back out onto the road knowing how life-threatening and relentless the blizzard was at the time.

One of the travellers, Yoseb Choi, was on his honeymoon when travelling and told the newspaper that stumbling upon the Campagna's at such a dangerous and unpredictable time was 'kind of like fate'.

In the true spirit of Christmas, the Campagna's generosity and kindness hasn't gone unnoticed and social media users across the globe have commented on how thoughtful their potentially life-saving actions were.

One user wrote: "What are the odds?! South Korean tourists end up stranded outside home of a Buffalo couple who happen to have Korean ingredients on hand—let the fun and feast begin!"

Another added: "Stories like this are one of the many things I love about #America - everyday people willing to help in challenging circumstances."
