Some people have been left furious after a seeing a viral post complaining about the cost of beef at a popular super market.

People complaining about the price of food isn’t really anything new - you know, with the ongoing cost of living crisis - but this time, people online feel more justified in their frustrations.

Florida’s most popular grocery store, Publix, has seemingly infuriated many of its loyal customers who have accused the chain of ‘criminal’ prices when it comes to their prime meat.

A simple image shared on Reddit just over a week ago has got people up in arms, with some arguing they won’t be returning to the supermarket any time soon.

They captioned the image: “Not only is this meat mediocre, it’s ridiculously priced. What the hell, Publix?! This is the store in Yulee, FL. Only tenderloin on the shelf at all.”

The photo showed that it was selling for $49.99 per pound, totaling $61.49.

While it's no secret that the prices of beef products have significantly risen over the last year, paying over $60 for a steak is undoubtedly painful.

This sent many other social media users into a rage, with many expressing their frustration at the price and arguing it might actually work out cheaper to simply go out for dinner instead.

One Reddit user commented: “For that price I’m going to Longhorn [Steakhouse] and have someone cook it for me too.”

Another added: “You can get a full ribeye or tenderloin dinner with table bread, 2 sides and softdrinks in Florida at a Outback, texas roadhouse or Longhorn for $26 – $31.”

With a third adding: “Just don’t buy these products. DONT PAY ABSURB PRICES FOR PROTEINS. Consumers have the power. If we don’t pay these prices they will lower. It’s not that complicated people.

"Eat chicken or whatever is cheaper locally until prices come down. F**k people you don’t have to pay these prices."

However, other users remarked that this was actually a good price and argued that the reason the cost is so high is due to it being a premium and high-quality product.

One defender of the price commented: “That is prime tenderloin they just have that for the holidays. Typically, it's choice. I bought some a couple weeks ago and it was the best tenderloin I have made at home.”

Another added: “Prime tenderloin anywhere is going to be absurdly expensive like that. I think I paid close to that for prime New York Strip a couple of years ago before prices went really haywire.”

As a third also wrote: “I mean, its over a pound of the most premium steaks you can buy... plus its organic. The cut they did does suck but its prime tenderloin. Just look for prime rib deals.”

While people who didn’t fall on either side of the fence simply remarked that if you don’t want to pay those prices, don’t, and shop elsewhere.
