A man in Washington was charged earlier this week after an altercation escalated into him throwing a sandwich at police officers, authorities said.

Donald Trump has caused a stir by announcing he was making big changes to law enforcement in Washington DC, vowing to enact drastic plans to fight crime and make Washington ‘great again’.

Writing on Truth Social, he said: “Before the tents, squalor, filth, and Crime, it was the most beautiful Capital in the World. It will soon be that again.”

He has also said Washington is a 'sanctuary for illegal alien criminals' that has become marred by 'lawlessness' to the point it's become 'one of the most dangerous cities in the world', with homicide rates higher than the likes of Bogotá or Mexico City.

This differs from official statistics however, which show DC has a 30-year low in violent crime.

Most concerningly, Trump said police will have the powers to ‘do whatever the hell they want’ in this endeavor of cleaning up the city.

However, this has faced significant pushback with some arguing the moves from Trump are draconian and ultimately ‘evil’.

But it seems one man has already found how serious Trump is about coming down hard on the people of Washington.

Sean Charles Dunn was arrested and charged with a felony on Sunday (August 10) after being accused of throwing a sub-style sandwich at officers, according to court documents

Police have said that Dunn confronted a group of US Customs and Border Protection officers on 14th Street in Northwest DC and called them ‘fascists’.

He then allegedly swore at the officers and decried that he didn’t want them in his city.

Police say he later crossed the road and returned with a sandwich, which he allegedly threw at an officer’s chest. He attempted to flee but was chased down and arrested, they said.

While being processed, Dunn allegedly confessed to throwing the sandwich and has since been charged with assaulting a federal police officer.

The day after his arrest, US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro took to social media to praise the move and mock Dunn.

In a video shared on Twitter, she said: “Trump’s message to criminals was that 'if you spit, we hit.'

“We didn’t quite do that the other night when an individual went up to one of the federal law enforcement officers and started jumping up down, screaming at him, berating him, yelling at him and then he took a sandwich and threw it at the officer.

“He thought it was funny, well he doesn’t think it is funny today because we charged him with a felony, assault on a police officer.
