Honor student could lose scholarship over 'twerking' video at homecoming after-party

Kaylee Timonet was left heartbroken over her principal’s reaction to the video

An honour student could have her college dreams shattered after hitting the dance floor with friends.

The Louisiana high schooler was filmed dancing with a ‘twerking’ friend at a homecoming party, leading to her principal telling her that she wasn't 'living in the Lord's way’.

Even more shockingly, the 17-year-old could lose her college scholarships as her teacher now refuses to endorse for grants.

While it sounds like the plot of Footloose, Kaylee Timonet was left heartbroken over her principal’s reaction to the video.

Given that the teen has an impressive 4.2 grade average, represents the school in several clubs and even recently received an award for volunteering in Baton Rouge.

Understandably, you’d be forgiven for thinking she deserved a night off.

However, principal Jason St. Pierre didn’t quite agree and after seeing the video, decided to call the honour student into his office on Oct 3.

It was then that Timonet was told that staff ‘didn’t want’ her representing Walker High School after being filmed dancing behind her friend.

Her mom, Rachel Timonet, even told The Advocate that the principal had printed out Bible verses to show the teen the error of her ways.

Recalling the incident, she said: “He told her she wasn’t living in the Lord’s way and questioned who her friends were and if they followed the Lord... She said she didn’t know how to answer that and they said it’s a yes or no question. Meanwhile, she’s sobbing.”

Shockingly, St. Pierre allegedly also informed the honour student that she would no longer be student government president and he would not endorse her college scholarship applications.

Having previously been up for two prestigious college scholarships, the teen was understandably devastated.

Timonet told UWK: “I felt like my life was over. Everything I worked for since I was little, always worked really hard at school. I work very hard in class. I stress myself out over everything.”

Unsurprisingly, there’s been a huge backlash over St. Pierre’s decision, with the Livingston Parish School District now investigating the incident.

Not only that but the 17-year-old’s community have supported her by selling t-shirts with the phrase ‘Let the girl dance’ and ‘I Stand with Kaylee Timonet’ written on them.

“Having this community that supported me helped me go back to school the next day and then having some of my friends that made these buttons and passed them out to everyone, it made me visually see everyone that supports me,” revealed the teenager.
