Among all the memes that have been created from Donald Trump's wild claims about dogs and cats being eaten in Springfield, Hank Azaria has perhaps just produced the best one.

Unless you've been living under a rock this past week, you'll be very much aware of the claims the former president made during the presidential debate against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on Tuesday (September 10).

Yep, Trump said that pets were being eaten in Springfield - but he didn't mean the fictional town best known in The Simpsons, he meant the city in Ohio.

It would have made a lot more sense if he said he had just been watching The Simpsons before taking the stage during the first debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, in Philadelphia.

Speaking at the ABC debate, the 78-year-old said: "In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating... they’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame.”

The Republican presidential candidate was referring to an online rumor about Haitian immigrants in the city were abducting pets and eating them.

Springfield Police has stated that there is no evidence to indicate that this has happened, but instead explained that the 'credible source' the information came from was a 'neighbor's daughter's friend' of the person who started the rumor.

The post claimed that a pet cat was found hanging from a tree after being skinned and ready to be eaten.

However, there was nothing to suggest that any of it was real... but it didn't stop Trump using his platform to talk about it and spread misinformation.

And in turn, it didn't stop hilarious posts online flooding social media platforms with what seems like non-stop The Simpsons memes - and quite frankly, I'm here for that.

The best one, however, has come from none other than Hank Azaria, a voice actor for The Simpsons who plays multiple characters, including Springfield's Chief Wiggum.

He uploaded a video to Twitter pretending to be on the phone to a 911 call as Chief Wiggum.

He said in the hilarious sketch: "Springfield Police Chief Clancy Wiggum speaking how can I help you?

"People are eating dogs? What do you mean like hot dogs? Oh cats? Mr Katz is eating hot dogs? No?

"People are eating dogs and cats? People are eating dogs and cats in Springfield? Are they good?"

The hilarious clip went viral and has been seen over six million times, but he wasn't the only one to get in on the action.

One user posted a meme of dogs swimming in gravy on The Simpsons, captioning it: "In Springfield they’re eating the dogs…'

"Donald Trump thinks he’s living in The Simpsons…"

While another posted the picture of Abe Simpson making it on the front page of a newspaper in the tv show, with the headline reading 'OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD'.

But this one was captioned with: "IN SPRINGFIELD. THEY'RE EATING THE DOGS. THEY'RE EATING THE CATS. THEY'RE EATING. THEY'RE EATING THE PETS."
