People on social media have been scratching their heads and furiously debating data that claims to show the average penis size.

Fascination about what is big, small, or average when it comes to penis size is a lot more prevalent than you might think.

A Reddit post alleging to show what the ‘estimated distribution of erect penis lengths in Mid-size U.S city’ has certainly got people’s attention.

Some have remarked that the ‘statisdicks’ have put them in a pretty good mood, as they fall on the higher end of the graph, while others have pointed out that there may be some simple issues with the data that make the information a lot less useful.

Unfortunately, the post, which was shared on the 'interesting as f***' Reddit board on May 20, doesn’t show who conducted the research or when it was done.

The graph's Y axis shows the number of men where as the X axis shows different sections for penis length and a total of 200,000 men were asked to participate.

The clear favorite section, peaking at 60,000, was a penis length between 5 and 5.49 inches. In 2nd place was the 4.5-4.99 inches and 3rd was 5.5 to 5.99 inches.

But those who were sceptical pointed out that the data is likely based on men’s self reported sizes rather than a health professional doing it.

Ultimately meaning that an unknown number could have boosted their numbers just a touch.

As well as this, others pointed out that those who are aware of their smaller sizes are less likely to want to take part in such a study, regardless of whether it is anonymous.

And the third issue being that if men did do the recording themselves, many could have done so incorrectly, making their total smaller or larger than it actually is.

One user joked: “I'd love to see a study that compares the distribution of men's self-reported sizes versus men's actual sizes.”

Another said: “Self-reported measurements often yield higher averages than those taken by health professionals, with some studies showing men exaggerating their penis size by up to 21%.”

With a third adding: “Methodology would be relevant here - I would think guys on the shorter end of this might not be signing up for opportunities to have their dick measured.”

Another simply joked: “This feels hard to believe but I guess I’m pretty big.”

And others demanded that without a source the data doesn’t hold that much value, so maybe don’t pay it too much mind.
