AI predicts who will win the 2028 US presidential election and it's incredibly close
We asked AI who is likely to win the 2028 US presidential election, and the 'tentative prediction' indicates the political figure has 'high name recognition'.
Trump has quipped time and time again that he will run for the next presidential election, with 'Trump 2028' hats retailing at $55 on the his official website.
Though anyone who is familiar with the US constitution knows that a president cannot take office more than twice - which theoretically means that Trump's reign is set to end in as little as two years.
But as we look towards the next election, AI has an interesting prediction for who might become the 48th President of the United States, while highlighting why one party might be more favored than the other.

Making a 'tentative prediction', ChatGPT states that the democrats (scored 55 percent) are likely to have a 'slight edge' over the republicans (scored 45 percent) in 2028.
Explaining its reasoning, the chatbot noted: "Historically, parties often rebound after midterm elections if they're out of power, but that depends heavily on the economy and the sitting president's approval.
"Democrats also have a relatively deep bench of potential candidates, though Republicans do as well."
But when it came to specific names, the AI bot identified two figures who could potentially go head to head in 2028.
"If Kamala Harris and JD Vance were the nominees in 2028, I'd expect it to be a genuine toss-up, with a slight edge depending on the political environment rather than either candidate alone," it added.
Ultimately, it decided that Harris would edge the vote with 52 percent, and that Vance would see around 48 percent of the vote share.
Why Kamala Harris could win
ChatGPT explained that Harris already has a lot of 'nationwide campaign experience' from the 2024 presidential election.
"Some early hypothetical polling has shown her narrowly ahead of Vance, though it's far too early to treat those numbers as predictive," the bot noted.
Why JD Vance could win
The AI bot said: "He has become the leading early Republican figure and would likely inherit much of the Trump coalition if he secured the nomination."
It added that if Democratic voters are 'looking for change' in 2028, Vance could be viewed favorably.
"He has appeal with many working-class voters in key Midwestern states that often decide presidential elections," it concluded.
But ChatGPT noted that several keys issues, over personality alone, could be deciding factors in the race.
These include:
- Inflation and cost of living.
- The state of the economy in 2028.
- Whether either candidate can win over independents.
- Turnout in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada.
What has Trump said about the 2028 elections?
Speaking at the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Association dinner on July 24, Trump said: "I won three times.
"Now, I'm going to do it again. It should be easy. I'm getting very good at running for president."
