AI has shared a look at what could happen if Barack Obama and Donald Trump both ran for president in 2028.

The popular YouTube channel, I Ask AI, shared a video exploring a hypothetical election where laws change and a third presidential term is allowed, allowing both Trump and Obama to run for president again.

Neither can run for a third term by law, as outlined in America's 22nd Amendment, though that doesn't mean that the 79-year-old hasn't toyed with the idea before.

However, the AI creator couldn't resist seeing what would happen if they could. The host told watchers to ignore the real details for a moment to consider the hypothetical scenario properly.

“So for the next 15 minutes, forget all about the 22nd Amendment. Just put it aside or somewhere," he said.

Then, imagine Trump runs again. The conversation turns to only one possible opponent.

“And once you open that door, there's really only one name that people bring up. Yes, this man. Every time Trump talks about a third term, Barack Obama's name comes up instantly," the YouTube host added.

Next, questions about the specifics of both campaigns were asked, including what they'd promise voters, how the country would feel and who would eventually win.

The AI predicted Obama's campaign would be centred around Trump, with a specific focus on reversal and repair, as well as 'undoing, correcting, or stabilizing what he would describe as damage from an extended Trump era'.

It also added: "He would present himself as the counterweight, steady where Trump is confrontational, institutional where Trump is disruptive, making the race a direct referendum on two very different governing styles.”

Meanwhile, the AI predicted that Trump's campaign would be more focused on 'unfinished business', with a heavy emphasis on immigration, 'expanded border control, and possibly ending birthright citizenship if he hasn't already pushed that fight'.

It was claimed that he'd push on tariffs, reshoring manufacturing, and 'being tougher on trade', as well as 'campaigning heavily against Democrats' in an attempt to 'probably frame them as radical, corrupt, or dangerous to the country's stability'.

"He'd claim he is the only one strong enough to save the country from decline," the host says.

Then, with America feeling exhausted due to conflict, such as scandals and protests, classic reelection conditions would not exist, according to the AI.

This would lead to a clear win, as the video concluded: “In that environment, I wouldn't see this as razor thin. I'd lean toward a fairly confident Obama win."

Hypothetical elections have also cropped up on X, with social media users asking the site's AI bot, Grok, about potential scenarios.

But Trump's time as president will conclude in January 2029, and he cannot be reelected, despite his alluding that he may try to run for a third term.

The 22nd Amendment states, as per the National Constitution Center: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

How could Trump run for a third term?

While it is currently prohibited for a president to serve a third term, a proposal was put forth by US Representative Andy Ogles last year to amend the Constitution to limit a person from being elected President after two consecutive terms.

However, Politico reported that the bill is unlikely to be approved and instead pointed to another possibility: Trump running for Vice President, taking back the presidency only if the presidential candidate stepped down on the first day of office, allowing Trump to take his place.

But there are laws in place to prevent this loophole from being exploited, John Fortier, a senior research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told Sky News.
