Elon Musk refuses to allow inspectors into Twitter office over 'X' sign violations

Inspectors have been denied access to Twitter's office as Elon Musk continues with his 'X' rebrand.

Another day, another Elon Musk Twitter story - or should I say X, as it's known nowadays.

Since completing the takeover of the social media company last October, Musk has brought in a slew of changes, some more divisive than others.

And recently, the Tesla founder has even changed the name of Twitter to X, leading to long-running users of the popular social media platform in tatters.

But the unexpected rebrand of Twitter has brought more problems to Musk's doorstep than he would have ever envisaged.

After unveiling the new logo for Twitter, or as it's now known, X, Musk wasted no time to replace the blue bird symbol on the top of Twitter’s headquarters in California.

The rebrand has come at a cost, especially for the unfortunate neighbors living across from the building.

One man took to Twitter to reveal the new flickering logo across from his block of apartments with the caption: “Imagine no more. This is my life now.”

It is not only the locals that Musk is annoying, with the San Francisco Department of Buildings also expressing their grievances with the Twitter owner.

Shortly after the sign was put up on Friday (28 July), investigators arrived to inform the company it was in violation of the city's building codes.

They also requested access to the roof as the sign was 'possibly unsafe', but the local authority are yet to have access.

That is because Twitter sent out a representative to the investigators who told them the sign was a 'temporary lighted sign for an event', as per a city complaint.

An inspector tried once more on Saturday (29 July), but they were once again unable to get onto the building as 'access was denied by tenant'.

San Francisco Department of Building Inspection spokesman Patrick Hannan said in a statement: "A building permit is required to make sure the sign is structurally sound and installed safely.

"Planning review and approval is also necessary for the installation of this sign."

It appears that Musk is in breach of several regulations when it comes to his rebranding efforts.

Under the lease agreement for Twitter's Market Street building, rooftop and exterior signs are banned, meaning the letter 'X' is not permitted.

The previous Twitter branding, which has since been taken down, was permitted.

The lease agreement also states Musk would need permission from its landlord to modify that original sign, as per the San Francisco Chronicle.

The breaking of rules doesn't seem to have bothered Musk so far, with the Twitter owner taking to his social media platform saying the landlord 'keeps calling the police about our sign modifications', before adding a clown emoji.
