A study has revealed just how regularly American couples are having sex and how many are satisfied with their sex lives.
Most relationship experts will tell you there isn’t a set figure for how much sex a couple should have, as long as both parties are satisfied, but people remain curious to know what the average is in America.
A survey commissioned by LELO and conducted by Talker Research took a deep dive into the sex lives of Americans and came to some surprising conclusions. Intriguingly, it challenged the narrative that Gen Z are having less sex than older generations.
Asking 2,000 US adults in a relationship or married, they found that 14 percent of those polled said their sex lives are ‘unsatisfying’.

However, when it comes to frequency, the average couples are hitting the sheets together four times per month for around 18.6 minutes each time, adding up to 15 hours over the course of the year.

Contrary to expectations, Gen Z couples actually had the most sex (5.3 times per month), followed by Millennials (5.1 times).
Luka Matutinovic, the chief marketing officer of LELO, reiterated the difficulty of finding time to have satisfying sex in the modern world.
They said: “In the last two decades our lifestyle has accelerated to a dizzying, sometimes overwhelming pace, and our dependence on technology is exacerbating this.
“With the modern way of life getting busier by the day, maintaining a satisfactory [sex] life has never been more important than it is today, as it provides significant physical, emotional and psychological benefits to individuals.
The study also found links between those who go on date nights and the likelihood of having a more satisfying sex life.

Those polled who say they have sex ‘very frequently’ (classified as 8+ times per month) were also the group that had the most date nights, 3.5 per month.
Conversely, Americans surveyed who have sex 'rarely' (classified as 0-1 times per month), also have the fewest number of romantic nights out - just 1.2 times every month.
The study also found that couples who communicate more frequently with their partners via text also have sex more frequently.
Those who have sex ‘very frequently’ were also the most likely group to say they text their partner 'constantly' (35 percent).
In comparison, those who say they 'rarely' have sex were also the least likely to stay in constant text communication with their partner (nine percent).
