A sex therapist has revealed her insights on what the most common turn ons, and how common they are.

Sex therapist Charlene Douglas, best known for being an expert on Married At First Sight UK, is more than aware that there are different strokes for different folks, and we all like all sorts of experiences when it comes to the bedroom.

However, with that being said, there are some common turn ons that apply to most people.

Speaking to LADbible Stories during an Honest Box Session, Douglas spoke on a wide array of sexual topics, including how much sex couples are having on average.

This included some of the most common turn ons she has come across in her years with clients, and admittedly, the top two might be quite surprising.

Douglas said: “I think most people would probably say oral sex. I think when you speak to penis owners and vulva owners, they will often say that having their genitals kissed, sucked and licked is very much a turn on, so I would say oral sex.”

Douglas also highlighted that the dynamic between couples also plays a big role in what gets people’s heart pumping in the bedroom. By extension, this has tied into what she would suggest is the second most popular turn on.

She added: “I think number two is probably dominance, there is a lot of people that talk about confidence being a real turn on.

“They like to be dominated, they like to be told what to do, where to stand, where to position themselves.

“There are more and more people that are saying that is actually, very much, a turn on, so I know a lot of guys will say that women initiating sex, saying that they desire them, saying that they want them, taking the lead can be very much a turn on. So I would say dominance is probably number two.”

Douglas also revealed her findings when it came to the most popular fetishes people have spoken to her about, which slightly differ from their turn ons.

She said: “I would say that threesomes are probably the kind of main fantasies that people have, but recently I have found that more and more people are interested in voyeurism.

“So they are getting really turned on by people watching them have sex. There was a couple that I was working with that had said that they really enjoy having sex in hotels but it needs to have a window where people can see them.

"So yeah, anything to do with voyeurism is becoming more and more popular.”
