A doctor has revealed nine signs that show the person you’re dating has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The world is finally being brought more awareness to the neurotype, and for many, this means that they’re resonating with signs they didn’t even know meant that have ADHD.

Sometimes, they might have had those issues pointed out to them or called ‘quirks’.

But now that word is spreading and people are getting diagnosed, they’re able to understand themselves a little bit better.

Still, a lot of people don’t know what to look out for in themselves, or the ones they love.

Thankfully, Dr Ali Ajaz, a consultant psychiatrist, who regularly posts to TikTok to share his wisdom with his followers, has revealed everything you need to know.

He shared one video revealing the nine signs that could indicate your partner has undiagnosed ADHD.

If you didn’t know, ADHD is ‘a condition where the brain works differently to most people'.

The NHS categorises it as having ‘trouble with things like concentrating and sitting still’, though it has been known to present differently in women and in men.

It went on to say that people with ADHD may struggle with having a lot of energy or feeling restless, being very talkative or making quick decisions without thinking it through, and so much more.

While symptoms of ADHD in childhood might present stronger, this typically happens when they are of school age.

But there are those who slip under the radar as those around them don’t realise that the behaviors they are seeing are signs of the condition and not quirks or a child acting out.

Thus, we have a lot of people who are finally getting diagnosed as adults after resonating with the symptoms they hear about and seeking advice.

What are the signs a person might have ADHD?

Dr Ajaz posted a video which specifically spoke about people with ADHD and their dating life, captioning it: "ADHD X Dating."

The overlaying text read: "Signs you're dating someone with ADHD."

He then explained on the screen the symptoms to look out for are if they:

  • Zone out in conversations
  • Forget plans (all the time!)
  • Go from 0 to a gazillion within seconds (arguments and/or meltdowns)
  • Overly sensitive to criticism

The doctor then said that there are some really positive things with dating an ADHD partner too, such as them being loyal, creative, passionate, deeply empathetic and very loving.

According to UK’s NHS, ADHD symptoms in adults include inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.

As per the CDC: “ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. Neurodevelopmental means having to do with the way the brain grows and develops.

“ADHD is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active.”

To treat it, the CDC explained a person could go on to partake in a combination of behavior therapy and medication, such as Adderall.
