He's dealt with a lot more cheaters in one profession 'than we would expect to'

A private detective with plenty of experience catching out cheaters has shared the five jobs unfaithful partners tend to have - and not all of them are what you'd think.

Few things undermine trust in a relationship like someone having an affair.

While there can be any number of factors which might lead someone to cheat, including let's be honest just being a straight up horrible person, a private detective has revealed one factor which might play a role in someone's propensity for play away - their job.

It's an image wreathed in swirls of cigarette smoke and seedy jazz playing as the solitary PI snaps another husband in a compromising position with his secretary, and now private detective Paul Evans has spilled the beans on some of the professions most likely to cheat.

And some of them are not what you would expect...

IT professionals

Yes, you read that right.

But if you think about it, someone with the know-how to cover up a secret dating profile or WhatsApp chat is well-placed to deceive in the digital age.

Paul explained to Metro: "With these workers having constant access to technology and social media, it becomes easier for them to hide secret conversations they don’t want people to know about."

He added: "We’ve dealt with more cases in the IT sector than we would expect to."

Call centre employees

Long hours and what can be a stressful job leads to some close bonds at work.

And with close relationships with a 'work wife' or 'work husband' comes the potential for things to take an unwelcome turn.

"Call centre workers are under pressure every day, and it’s only natural to form bonds with the people around you," said Paul.

"Unfortunately for some, these friendships often cross the line when you are spending long hours side by side."

Sales reps

Perhaps a less surprising one than the previous two, as this is a job which can involve a lot of travelling, not to mention being very persuasive.

There's perhaps a reason that the lothario who works as a travelling salesman has become something of a trope - it's much easier to keep multiple relationships going when you constantly have to travel between New York and San Fransisco.

"We’ve had cases where we have followed reps around the country to find out they were cheating with work colleagues and sometimes randomers at the hotel bar," said Paul.

Flight attendants

Another one which is maybe a little more expected to be on this list.

Flight attendants have a combination of a lot of travel, and a lot of layovers in hotels which leave more opportunity than usual for extramarital activities.

This might be having someone in every city you frequent, or even a more sustained single affair.

Paul recalled one particular case: "We investigated a married flight attendant who frequently worked long-haul.

"She started to become distant, and when we looked into it, she had been meeting a pilot from another airline during her stopovers. They had been booking into the same hotels for months."

Medical professionals

Medics sit squarely as Paul's number one cheaters.

Long hours, about as stressful a job as you could imagine, and an innate understanding between medics that other professionals just don't *get*.

All this adds up to a recipe for infidelity.

Paul said: "In one of our cases, we discovered that a nurse was having an affair with a doctor during their night shifts, meeting in a spare room in the hospital while their partners believed that they were working."
