A senior democrat has told Americans that they are 'right to be worried' about the Iran war following a closed-door briefing on Tuesday (March 3).

Earlier this week, the likes of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Joint Chiefs chair Dan Caine held a meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to give updates on the conflict in Iran.

President Trump ordered the first strikes to take place on February 28 as part of a joint attack with Israel that's been dubbed as 'Operation Epic Fury'.

Days of conflict have since followed, and the POTUS has warned that it could go on for some time.

It's said that the Trump administration carried out the attack without clearing it with Congress first, despite Congress being the only power that's able to declare war.

With this in mind, it's now being argued that he has undermined both the constitutional order in the US and the US-built international legal order concerning the use of force, Brian Finucane, senior advisor at International Crisis Group, writes.

As Congress, and therefore the Democratic party, were not briefed on the attacks in advance, Trump's administration held a belated briefing on Tuesday — and it's safe to say that Dems didn't like what they heard.

Speaking after the meeting, Senator Richard Blumenthal said: "I just want to say I am more fearful than ever after this briefing that we may be putting boots on the ground and that troops from the United States may be necessary to accomplish objectives that the administration seems to have."

"I think the administration owes it to the American people to have briefings not just for members of Congress, but for the American public," Blumenthal added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Senator Elizabeth Warren shared: "It is so much worse than you thought."

She continued, as per Rolling Stone: "You are right to be worried. The Trump administration has no plan in Iran. This illegal war is based on lies, and it was launched without any imminent threat to our nation.

"Donald Trump still hasn’t given a single clear reason for this war, and he seems to have no plan for how to end it either."

Warren also took her concerns to Twitter and wrote yesterday (March 4): "In the modern era, no American president has ordered more military strikes against as many different countries as Donald Trump.

"It will be our sons and daughters, our nieces and nephews, our grandchildren who will be asked to sacrifice their lives for Trump’s wars."

Senator Ruben Gallago has expressed his concerns about the ongoing conflict in Iran as well, and said there's a possibility that it will be 'a long-term war'.

"If we don’t know how we can get out of this war, if we don’t know what the actual victory is, we’re seeing potentially a long-term war," he said on CNN.

"The president has not been very clear how and when it ends. And more importantly, the American public does not want this right now."
