Donald Trump continues to insist the US will eventually acquire Greenland and claims it is in everyone’s best interests.

Since taking office, Donald Trump has repeatedly called for Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, to become a part of the US.

Despite both the Danish government and the Greenlandic government insisting that Greenland is not up for sale, Trump still maintains he thinks he will succeed.

The two nations have recently grown more frustrated with the US as JD Vance has made a trip to a US base in Greenland, unannounced.

In a new interview with reporters in the White House, on Friday (March 28) Donald Trump made it even clearer the reason he is gunning for Greenland so hard.

Speaking in the Oval Office, he said: “We need Greenland.

“Very importantly, for international security, we have to have Greenland. It's not a question of, 'Do you think we can do without it?' We can't.

“If you look at Greenland right now, if you look at the waterways, you have Chinese and Russian ships all over the place, and we're not going to be able to do that. We're not relying on Denmark or anybody else to take care of that situation.”

He added: “And we're not talking about peace for the United States. We're talking about world peace. We're talking about international security. And right now you look at it, you have warships all over the place going through, right along Greenland.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has spoken about how desperately the US wants the nation.

Speaking to a joint session of Congress at the start of the month, Trump issued a message to the people of Greenland with a slight dangerous undertone.

He said: “We strongly support your right to determine your own future. If you choose we welcome you into the United States of America.”

Speaking of his goal of acquiring Greenland, he added: “I think we’re going to get it – one way or the other, we’re going to get it ... We will keep you safe. We will make you rich and together we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.”
