Since his death, fans have been curious about the last moments before Payne’s death and now a close friend of the star has spoken out about their final conversation.

Jodie Richards, who formerly taught Payne performing arts at Pink Productions in Wolverhampton, has said the pair would regularly speak on a near daily basis at one point.

Richards spoke with Sky News and said that Payne had texted her to touch base and check up on how everyone was in his hometown of Wolverhampton not long before his death.

In texts seen by the outlet, Payne had texted Jodie on Monday to see how she was in which she told him that she was at the gym with her son.

After that she received a photo of the singer with his hand on his head and she replied that she had just got home.

“And obviously as I turned the telly on it was just getting more and more apparent that it wasn't fake.

She also shared the texts she attempted to send Payne after news of his death.

“Liam!!!,' the first text read, followed by: “Please tell me this isn't true!!!!!!”

She followed this up, seemingly understanding the reality of the situation, with a goodbye message.

The text read: “Goodnight Mr P. I have no words and don't want to say goodbye. When I wake up I'm sure it will all be a dream.”
