A strange case of a memory condition that impacts people after certain events, including after sex, has been explained by experts.

There are a lot of weird things that happen to people every day, but mysterious health issues can be a cause for alarm when someone doesn’t know what’s happening to them, and why.

Well, a phenomenon has occurred which has left individuals confused and disorientated after getting intimate with their partners.

According to The Lancet, a study has revealed odd happenings that have impacted people immediately after sexual intercourse, and the symptoms are bizarre.

Transient global amnesia is a condition that is diagnosed after someone displays a ‘sudden onset of confusion that includes memory loss, seen by a witness’, as per the Mayo Clinic.

A person who is developing the problem might also be awake and alert and know who they are, despite memory loss, have normal cognition, no signs of damage to a particular area of the brain, and more, which is why it’s hard to understand what causes this short-term issue.

Actor Liev Schreiber once had this condition and realized something was wrong when he forgot a co-star's name on Broadway.

According to the study, it’s something that means ‘a person is unable to create new memory, so the memory of recent events disappears’.

But sometimes, it occurs right after sex.

According to the study, two elderly men presented with symptoms after becoming confused right after having intercourse.

A 72-year-old man allegedly appeared with a ‘new onset thrombocytopenia’ and had ‘an episode of transient loss of memory two years previously’.

Just half an hour after sex, he was reportedly sat on the bed, 'completely conscious, but was confused.’

“He was taken to hospital by his wife and found to be disoriented. He misidentified the current US President as Jimmy Carter,” said the study. “A neurological examination revealed no focal signs and magnetic-resonance imaging of the head was normal.”

Soon after, his symptoms disappeared, but he didn't remember anything during his time of amnesia... because he couldn't make new memories.

Then, a 75-year-old retired physician also experienced the strange occurrence half an hour after sex and began to talk continuously without making sense.

He too ‘misidentified the current US president,’ but resumed his life as normal within fifteen hours.

While a clear trigger hasn’t been found, the Mayo Clinic reports that there have been a few things patients have reported as having happened prior to the onset of symptoms.

It could have been a sudden immersion in cold or hot water, strenuous physical activity, sexual intercourse, medical procedures, mild head trauma, or being emotionally upset.

It truly is a strange condition.
