Fairground ride crashes to ground in shocking footage

Shocking footage shows the moment a fairground ride in India suffers a malfunction and goes crashing back down to earth with a bump for all those on board.

Mercifully, there are no reports that anyone was killed in the horrific accident, but several people – including a number of children – are thought to have been injured.

Just as a WARNING: The below video could be distressing for some.

The incident left several people in need of hospital treatment according to local reports, and the staff that were allegedly responsible for the safety of the ride are said to have fled the scene before any police could get there.

An investigation has been launched into what happened at the fairground in India’s Punjab region on September 4.

In the video – as you can see – the ride is at the very apex and spinning around very fast.

Then, it comes crashing down as expected, but something was obviously very wrong with it.

Instead of pulling out of the descent like it is supposed to, it just kept falling down, crashing into the floor with some force.

Some of the people riding on the attraction could be seen to be thrown up and out of their seats, whilst onlookers watched on aghast, some screaming once they realised what had happened.

At least 15 people are reported to have been injured, with five people admitted to a hospital near to the fairground, hosting the Mohali Trade Fair.

According to the Indian Express, the Deputy Superintendent of local police Harsimran Singh Bal said: “A carnival was being organised and the eyewitness told us that there was a technical snag in the swing and it had fallen.”

The fair was supposed to continue until September 11, but it has now been closed down.

There is also an investigation into whether the people who organised the event had permission to do so.

One of those who organised the festival, Sunny Singh, said that they’d operated the ride on many occasions before, but ‘this has never happened’.

He also reportedly claimed he is planning to cooperate with the police in their investigations.

One eyewitness said: “We saw people falling from the swing when it went up. There were children and women sitting in it.”

After that, the people who were in charge of the carnival are said to have left the scene.
