Twitter officially changes logo from bird to an X

The official @twitter account has had an update

Twitter has changed its logo - saying goodbye to the bird and replacing it with a large X.

The new logo has appeared on the official @twitter account, although for the time being the blue bird is still being displayed on the site itself.

The change comes after Twitter owner and Elon Musk took to the social media platform to say: “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow.”

He then followed this up with another post explaining that, in time, he would be getting rid of the ‘Twitter brand’ altogether.

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” he tweeted.

In another tweet, he said: "If X is closest in style to anything, it should, of course, be Art Deco."

Over the weekend, Musk ran a poll asking Twitter users if he should change the default platform color to black. The poll pulled in 1,881,083 votes, 74.8 percent of whom voted for the black option.

The logo change is, to date, the biggest change Musk has made to the platform since he took over last year.

The company name has also been changed, to X Corp, amid reports that the billionaire hopes to create a ‘super app’ - named X - which will be similar to China’s WeChat, offering messaging, social media and payments into one app.

The recently-announced Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino said in a series of tweets: "It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.

“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.

“For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.

“There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. @elonmusk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.”
