Former US President Donald Trump has pushed a conspiracy theory that FBI agents raided his Florida home in order to 'plant' evidence.

The ex-President took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, to peddle the claims.

"The FBI and others from the Federal Government would not let anyone, including my lawyers, be anywhere near the areas that were rummaged and otherwise looked at during the raid on Mar-a-Lago," Trump wrote in the Truth Social post, as per VICE.

"Everyone was asked to leave the premises, they wanted to be left alone, without any witnesses to see what they were doing, taking or, hopefully not, 'planting.' Why did they STRONGLY insist on having nobody watching them, everybody out? Obama and Clinton were never 'raided,' despite big disputes!"

At around the same time Trump's message surfaced on social media, the New York Post published a story on the FBI raid quoting that a 'source close to the former president' had raised concerns that either prosecutors or federal agents may have 'planted stuff' in Trump's 128-room Florida mansion.

There is currently no proof to support these allegations.

However, the conspiracy theory seems to be picking up steam with one of Trump's lawyers Christina Bobb discussing the issue on right-wing TV station Real America’s Voice.

"There is no security that something wasn’t planted,' she stated, before admitting that she was not aware that anything underhanded had actually occurred.

Another Trump lawyer Alina Habba echoed the same suggestions on Fox News.

Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate was raided on August 8, with the ex-US leader writing on social media that he wasn't at all pleased at all by the unexpected visit from the feds.

He said in a statement: "After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."

ABC News reported that The Justice Department has been investigating allegations that 'boxes of records containing classified information' were taken to the Mar-a-Lago estate after Trump's tenure as the US President ended in early 2021.

The National Archives and Records Administration reportedly flagged the issue with The Justice Department.

They alleged there were 15 boxes in Trump's Florida residence and they contained classified material.

It's not clear whether the raid was related to this issue.

In an email statement seen by NBC from his Save America political committee, Trump hit out as the August 8 raid unfolded.

"These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents," he said.

"After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."

He added: "They even broke into my safe."

The 45th President of the United States also said that the political persecution against him has been going on for years he feels that 'it never ends'.
