Cops issue update on Rob Reiner's son as he's arrested following parents' deaths

Nick Reiner, 32, was booked into jail on Sunday (December 14)

The Los Angeles Police Department has issued an update on its investigation into Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele's, deaths.

The news of Rob's passing has shaken Hollywood to its core, and tributes have been rolling in for him in the wake of his unexpected death. The acclaimed actor and director died alongside his wife, Michele.

Officers were called to their LA home on Sunday (December 14), where they found two deceased adults, an LAPD statement explained. Those bodies were later confirmed to be those of When Harry Met Sally director Rob and his wife of 36 years.

The couple shared three kids together, and it's their son Nick Reiner, 32, who was arrested following their deaths.

Initially, there were reports that a family member of the Reiners was being questioned when it came to light that Nick had been taken into custody.

It was unclear what crimes he was arrested on suspicion of, but now the LAPD has confirmed that Nick is a suspect in the case and has been 'booked for murder'.

"The information at this stage is still limited, but we'll share what we can," LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell said at a press conference today.

"First of all, our hearts go out to the family and friends of the Reiners. A tragic incident," he continued.

"Yesterday, December 14, at about 3:40 in the afternoon, LAPD responded to the residence of Rob and Michele Reiner located in West Los Angeles division.

"At that location, they found two deceased adults, a male and a female. Through the night, working with the coroner's office, they were able to identify them definitively as Rob and Michele Reiner."

McDonnell further confirmed that Nick, who has a history of drug addiction issues, was taken into custody and is a suspect in the deaths of his parents.

McDonnell was then asked about a search warrant that's since been carried out at the Reiners' residence. He said that he couldn't confirm 'what the object of the search warrant was' but branded the search as being 'critical' to their investigation.

A statement added that Nick remains in custody with no bail.

Many people have publicly paid their respects to Rob and Michele following the 'apparent homicide', including Jamie Lee Curtis, who called the late couple 'great friends' to her and her husband, Christopher Guest.

"Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michele Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them," the actress shared.

She added: "We have lost great friends. Please give us time to grieve."
