Alec and Hilaria Baldwin called out for name of their seventh child

Hilaria Baldwin gave birth to her seventh child with husband Alec Baldwin on Sunday (25 September), but not everyone is impressed with the baby’s name.

The fuss is all surrounding Hilaria's Spanish heritage, which she's previously been accused of 'faking'.

Back in 2020, it emerged Hilaria was actually from Boston, not Spain, and even claimed to have forgotten the English word for cucumber, which was quite strange, because of the whole being from Boston thing.

She was also revealed to have previously gone by Hilary.

Watch Hilaria's birth announcement post below:

Now, that’s the context bit out of the way, so it’ll probably make sense to hear some people took issue with the Baldwins’ choice of name.

Announcing the news of her daughter’s birth in an Instagram post, Hilaria wrote: “She’s here! We are so excited to introduce you to our tiny dream come true.”

She also revealed the tot’s name was ‘Ilaria Catalina Irena’ and along came the backlash.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Fake Spanish name from Boston-born mom,” while a second echoed: “Hilaria & Alec Baldwin had their 7th child. Not one American name, not even a middle name.”

Another wrote: “Her blatant trying to be Spanish is really quite irritating, why is it okay? Why does she keep trying? Have they really let it go to their heads that much?”

A fourth said: “Alec Baldwin's wife faking being Spanish is so crazy. Changing her name from Hillary to Hilaria, naming all 7 of their kids with those roots, pretending to forget the english word for ‘cucumber’, faking an accent. She should’ve changed her name to hilarious instead."

UNILAD has approached Hilaria’s representative for comment.

Back in December 2020, Hilaria spoke to the New York Times about allegations she’d ‘feigned’ her Spanish heritage, saying that her forgetting the name for cucumber was down to nerves because it was one of the first times she’d appeared on live TV.

She also addressed the fact that her management agency had said she was born in Mallorca in an online bio they’d written her, with Hilaria saying it was a ‘disappointing’ error.

The yoga teacher also told the outlet that although she was born Hilary, she decided to change her name to Hilaria as that’s what her Spanish family call her.

Hilaria said: “The things I have shared about myself are very clear. I was born in Boston. I spent time in Boston and in Spain. My family now lives in Spain.”
