The 'huge argument' between Megan Thee Stallion and NSYNC at VMAs has been explained, providing answers to confused viewers.

It's never the VMAs without any drama is it, and it all kicked off in the first hour of Tuesday night's (12 September) show.

Megan Thee Stallion appeared to get into a huge argument with NSYNC backstage, as the 'Savage' singer was getting herself ready for her performance with Cardi B when MTV's cameras panned to her.

Wowing audiences with their smash song, the two stars performed ‘Bongos’ at the VMAs in New Jersey.

But that wasn't what fans were focused on back home, as Megan Thee Stallion appeared to have some strong words for NSYNC as they passed.

Backstage footage shows her having her hair prepped as the '90s boyband walk past and Justin Timberlake turns to chat to her.

And instead of happily talking back, the ‘Sweetest Pie’ star shook her long-nailed finger at them and did not seem particularly sweet.

It seemed as though things got heated backstage.

She looked to be snapping at the boyband and she eventually turned away, shaking her head as they walked away.

The clip quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers flocking to X (formerly known as Twitter) to provide their thoughts.

"Idk what they were arguing about but she’s right," one viewer remarked.

Meanwhile, another suggested: "All Justin Timberlake did was say hi.”

While others joked that the altercation between the group was ‘not on my bingo card’ for the evening's festivities.

Neither party has come out and addressed the altercation in recent hours, though a Variety report does provide some indication as to what may have gone on.

While it looked like the pair were involved in an argument, a backstage source close to Variety told the outlet there was 'zero fight'.

"[Timberlake] said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you', and she said ‘No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper'," the source revealed.

There was 'zero fight' according to the source.

"It was very cute," the source added.

Meanwhile, a second eye witness source said: "Meg loves Justin. She was saying 'No, no, no, we’ve never met before'. It was their first time meeting and she was excited."

Either way, Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B absolutely killed it as they took to the stage with ‘Bongos’, with viewers raving about the pair.

Made up of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass, the VMAs marked NSYNC’s first reunion in 10 years as they presented the Best Pop award to Taylor Swift.
