Cher has revealed the reason she turned down one of the most iconic faces in music back in the day.

Even if the 77-year-old could turn back time, she probably wouldn't say yes to the King of Rock and Roll given she's now in a happy relationship with boyfriend Alexander Edwards.

However, Cher has since opened up about the reason she said no to Elvis Presley's advances all those years ago.

Cher reflected on her career and personal life in an interview with fellow singer Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

In an episode which premiered on 1 May, Hudson asked about the time Cher 'turned down Elvis'.

The 'I Got You Babe' musician responded: "It's just, I was nervous and I knew of the people around him and it wasn't that they were bad people it's just that I was kind of nervous of his reputation.

"I'm really shy when I'm not working and kind of shy around men."

And Cher then goes on to explain this is why she chooses to date younger men too.

Despite going against her own advice when dating her current boyfriend Edwards, the singer told Hudson one of the reason she gets with younger men is because of her shyness too.

"The reason I got with younger men is because men my age are older - well, now they're all dead but - before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me and younger men were the only ones," she explains, agreeing when Hudson noted younger men tend to be 'bold'.

Cher continued: "Yeah they were raised by women like me."

Now, Cher is in a relationship with Edwards who is 39 years her junior after having previously been in a relationship with Rob Camilletti in 1986, when she was 40 and he was 22.

Cher and Edwards met at Paris Fashion Week and while there's a reason she tends to date men who are younger than her, that doesn't mean it's always smooth-sailing.

The singer told Extra her and her beau's points of reference can sometimes misalign due to them being years apart.

She said: "The other day, I said: ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Somebody said: ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my references… He’ll look at me and go: ‘I wasn’t born yet.'"

However, that hasn't stopped the pair sharing a love of music and talking about 'everything' else and ultimately just 'get[ting] each other'.
