Showrunner Steven D Knight has called out Jenna Ortega for publicly ‘s***ing on’ the producers and writers behind Wednesday.

It comes after Ortega’s most recent interview, during which she claimed she'd changed part of the Netflix show’s script as it ‘did not make sense’.

Though neither the series creators nor Ortega have spoken about her appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast, DeKnight has responded angrily on Twitter.

Despite being a critical and commercial success, the actress was reportedly less than impressed with the initial script for the Netflix series.

She even admitted that she hoped the series would be much darker and that she’d changed dialogue without speaking to the writers first - which she first disclosed on the Armchair Expert podcast.

Upon realising that it would be aimed at a much younger audience, Ortega immediately become more ‘protective’ of Wednesday as character.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday”, she told host Dax Shepard, as she revealed that she been particularly unimpressed with the now iconic dance hall scene.

“There was a line about a dress she has to wear for a school dance and she says, ‘Oh my god I love it. Ugh, I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ I had to go, ‘No',” the Scream VI star added, saying that she’d almost become ‘unprofessional’ due to her constantly changing lines.

Whilst some have praised the actress’s commitment to her character, many, including writer Steven DeKnight, have criticised her for her behaviour behind the scenes.

After being tagged in a tweet about her on-set antics, the writer told a fan that she’d ‘clearly sh*t on the showrunners/ writer publicly’.

In the thread of another tweet, he said that the actress could have approached the issue in a much more professional manner.

DeKnight wrote: “She’s young, so maybe she doesn’t know any better (but she should). She should also ask herself how she would feel if the showrunners gave an interview and talked about how difficult she was and refused to perform the material.”

He would later call her ‘entitled’ and ‘beyond toxic’, in a series of tweet that blasted the young actress.

And its divided many fans who have loved the original series and are currently awaiting more news about the second season.

Many have even pointed out this awkwardness on Reddit, with one user writing: “I can’t imagine how awkward it’s gonna be once they start filming."
