Wednesday Addams will live to see another day.

Netflix has announced its hit drama Wednesday will return for a second season amid rumours the series might leave the streaming service for Amazon Prime.

Fear not, Netflix fans. Not only is the world's favourite 16-year-old goth coming back to our screens, the new season will also be on Netflix.

The official Netflix Twitter account confirmed the good news with a very simple announcement. "It’s official: Wednesday Season 2 is coming!!" it said, alongside a black heart emoji.

Little Monsters will also be pleased to hear that the sped-up version of Lady Gaga's iconic spooky single 'Bloody Mary' is featured in the new trailer, which includes footage of fans across the world dressed up as Wednesday.

And there are a lot of Wednesday admirers out there. Last month, Wednesday surpassed Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story for the number of hours-watched on Netflix.

From December 5 to 11, the Tim Burton series clocked 269.67 million hours viewed, dethroning the Ryan Murphy series as Netflix’s number two most popular English language TV series of all time, as per Variety.

The Addams Family spin-off show has achieved an even bigger milestone, becoming the third series to clock one billion hours viewed within a month of its release.

Wednesday's unique dance moves have gone viral.

In case you haven't watched the latest phenomenon in popular culture, the series revolves around the 16-year-old goth who attends Nevermore Academy and tries solve a murder mystery.

Netflix’s description reads: “Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Jenna Ortega plays the titular role and is joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams.

Former Disney Channel star Ortega snagged a Golden Globe nomination for her performance, making her one of the youngest nominees ever at just 20 years old.

The Scream actor already shared her hopes for season two, a mere few days before Netflix made it official.

"I kind of want her to be darker," she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe.

"Because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of a competitiveness. Kind of, ‘Man, how’s this guy doing this?’"

"I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero."
