Thor Fans Disappointed with Absence Of Major Villain In First Trailer

Despite his absence, however, some fans pointed out that the trailer does feature nods to the character's appearances in the comics

Many fans watching the new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder after it dropped yesterday found themselves disappointed after realising it was a no-show from a major villain.

The long-awaited sequel stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher and Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord.

But out of its all-star line-up, there’s one huge character missing from the trailer - watch it here to see if you can work out who’s missing:

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that there’s no Gorr the God Butcher, meaning we don't get the first look at Christian Bale in action that we'd hoped for.

One person tweeted: "WAIT WHERE THE F**K IS GORR."

Someone else asked: "Fire trailer but WHERE IS GORR????????"

Expressing the same levels of anger and confusion, a third said: "WHERE THE F**K IS GORR THE GOD BUTCHER?!

YOU F**KING MORONS!! #ThorLoveAndThunder."

After all, the movie's plot suggests that Bale's Gorr will play a fairly major role in the narrative, with a synopsis from Marvel saying: "The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late."

Despite his absence, however, some fans pointed out that the trailer does feature nods to the character's appearances in the comics.

While we don't know why Gorr didn't pop up this time, EpicStream's Michael Baculinao believes there are a number of reasons that could be at play.

He wrote: "There is a possibility that the VFX work is not polished enough for them to show him. However, you can also look at the possibility that it's simply just a marketing move since the trailer emphasized more on giving us a look at what Thor's next journey will look like rather than showing what the actual plot will be."

Baculinao added that we can 'easily bet' Gorr will show up in the next trailer, so maybe it's just a waiting game...

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in cinemas on 8 July.
