Awkward moment Whoopi Goldberg gets asked about Sister Act 3 by former co-star Kathy Najimy

One viewer called the exchange 'sweat inducing'

Viewers spotted what appeared to be a bit of an awkward moment after Whoopi Goldberg was asked about the possibility of a third Sister Act movie by former co-star Kathy Najimy.

As you may remember, Najimy starred as Sister Mary Patrick alongside Goldberg's Sister Mary Clarence in both the original 1992 flick Sister Act and returned for Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit

The movies were hugely successful and speculation about a third movie has been swirling for years.

However, when Najimy asked about the possibility of a third movie, Goldberg appeared to be caught slightly off guard - you can see how it went down here:

Appearing on The View to promote Hocus Pocus 2, Najimy revealed: “I haven’t heard anything formal about three yet, I’ve heard rumblings of it. I think it’d be a blast of fun. I look forward to the nuns that we were with that are still with us, seeing them again, they were fantastic, so much fun.”

She then turned directly to Goldberg and said: “Where is that at? Is that happening?”

To which Goldberg said it was going ahead but didn’t reveal whether Najimy would be involved or give her any further details despite a script coming soon.

She replied: “It is happening. We are getting a script at the end of the month.

“It took a little while, but it’s happening.”

She then said it was given the green light, in part, due to the fact Hocus Pocus 2 had gone ahead.

“You all helped that happen, I think,” Goldberg continued. “Because they brought Hocus Pocus back. They finally said, ‘we might as well put those nuns back out there and see if they have any juice'.”

The slightly awkward exchange didn’t go unnoticed by viewers - posting the clip on Twitter, one person wrote: “I can’t stop watching Whoopi not inviting Kathy Najimy back for Sister Act 3.”

Someone else said: “Why didn't Kathy Najimy know that Sister Act 3 was going to be filmed?

"They better not think about doing that movie without her.”

A third fan added: “Nothing hurt me more than finding out that Kathy Najimy didn’t find out until she was on The View that she wasn’t offered Sister Act 3.”

Another person posted: “Kathy Najimy seemed so gracious hearing about Sister Act 3… it doesn't sound like she's a part of it.”

While others vowed to boycott any sequel if Najimy wasn’t back to reprise the role of Sister Mary Patrick.
