The second season of Apple TV+'s Severance came to a dramatic and bloody end last week, and now producer Ben Stiller has spoken out on just how long fans will have to wait for the next instalment.

After the absolutely mind-blowing cliffhanger that was the season one finale, Severance returned to our screens earlier this year and once again captivated viewers with its mystifying, mind-bending storyline.

With a cast made up of Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, Tramell Tillman and Dichen Lachman, Severance has earned an outstanding score of 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and reviews from viewers who have described it as the 'the best TV show [they] have ever watched'.

Needless to say, reviews like this have left fans desperate for a third season, and the most recent episode of the show definitely paved the way for more.

In an interview with LADbible Group, Stiller, who also directed episodes of Severance, shed light on whether there's likely to be another three-year gap before the next season, as was the case between seasons one and two.

Offering some hope that fans won't have to wait quite as long this time, Stiller said: “I mean, honestly, the idea is just to try as hard as we can to get it out as soon as possible. But it's always that process."

“You know, you want to make something that when it gets out people like it and feel like it is what it should be.

"So that's the challenge always for us," he continued. "We’ve had so many sort of, you know, natural things that have happened in the world each season.”

Stiller then joked that there is ‘an asteroid they keep talking about’, leading creator Dan Erickson to joke that they are ‘monitoring it’.

The Night At The Museum actor then added: “But, I mean, at some point when we'll obviously announce [the release date].”

Stiller's comments build on other recent comments he's made about season three, when he told the British chat show This Morning: “I would love to tell you how long you'll have to wait, but the goal is definitely not to wait three years, between two and three.”

Though fans will no doubt be delighted to hear that season three might not be so far away, viewers have defended the show after it took so long to deliver season two.

"yes severance took three years between seasons but have you considered that they also gave us two of the best episodes in television history within the span of one month," one person commented.

Severance is available to stream on AppleTV+ now.
