The 2026 Golden Globes nominees have been announced, but a major new addition has got people scratching their heads.
One of the biggest events of the Hollywood calendar, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 11.
It will return to Los Angeles and be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser for the second year running.
On Monday (December 8), actors Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall revealed which movies and TV shows are being honored this year.
The nominations are determined by 'an independent body of international journalist voters', the organization says.
Coming out on top is action-thriller One Battle After Another, which has been nominated for nine awards, including best picture, director and screen writer.
The Paul Thomas Anderson-directed movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a washed-up ex-revolutionary forced back into action when his nemesis resurfaces to hunt him and kidnap his daughter.
Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another (Warner Bros.) Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value received eight nominations, Sinners had seven, Hamnet followed with six nominations, while Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good each earned five.
Leading the way for the small screen is The White Lotus with six nods, followed by Stephen Graham's knock-out Adolescence with five and both Disney's Only Murders in the Building and Apple TV's Severance on four apiece.
Another medium is also being celebrated for 2026.
A brand new category recognizing podcasts has been ushered in, although social media users have expressed their confusion at the addition.
The Globes said the award exists to recognize 'the quality, creativity, audience engagement and impact' podcasts have had.
Who was snubbed at the 2026 Golden Globes?
Fans think Joe Rogan's podcast was 'snubbed' by the Golden Globes (Joe Rogan Experience/YouTube) There have been several notable snubs this year, even as some films picked up nominations in the categories many expected.
Wicked: For Good scored multiple nominations, including for its stars and music, but was left out of Best Picture, marking one of the ceremony’s biggest shocks.
Kathryn Bigelow was also noticeably absent from the Best Director lineup, despite mounting expectations for Netflix thriller House of Dynamite.
Actress Kristin Scott Thomas missed out for Slow Horses, even as the series and Gary Oldman were recognized.
And in TV, The Last of Us suffered a near-complete Globes blackout, with only Bella Ramsey being nominated for Best Actress.
And in a surprise move, Joe Rogan was shut out of the new Best Podcast category, despite The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) dominating across platforms like Spotify, Apple, and YouTube. The JRE was Spotify's most listened-to podcast of 2025, thought to bring in around 11 million listeners per episode across platforms.
